Transportation
Yes, it lands
there.
To and fro is not simple, as choices are limited, but that being said, you can come generally and go when you want. Flights from Rhodos now leave at 2 pm, on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. One Monday and Wednesday, there are 7 am flights. Thursday there is no plane. With the larger Dash 8's flying now, there is usually space save for the July/August season when reservations are a must. Don't be worried when 2:00 comes without a gate assignment, things happen that way in Greece. Also be aware that flights are cancelled if the winds are high, have a ferry in mind as a back up. The price has just changed to 26 Euros each way - the airfare bargain of Greece! There is a bus which meets the flights, and the island's single taxi. And it's completely feasible to walk to town; it's about 3 1/2 kilometers but downhill.

The plane is cheap and quick - you get a full day on the island - but there is a magic about arriving on a ferry. Around 16-17 Euros (one way), the ferries are a 4 to 4 1/2 hour trip that concludes with the surprise appearance of the little toy town as the ferry rounds Saint Stephanos - a treat. There are also large Catamarans in season, more expensive at 32 Euros (one way) but usually 2 1/2 hours in transit. If you are prone to seasickness, a windy day on a Cat is a long 2 and 1/2 hours.
Current boat schedule (and winter boats are always shifting times): Tuesday leaving Rhodos about 9 am, Thursdays leaving Rhodos about 2 pm, and Saturday leaving Rhodos about 2 pm.
